The circle of life…

I just had another tooth filled in – a bit of pain…

My son is teething, and while we wait for his first teeth to appear…a bit of pain.

Someone elder in my family had a fall…a small surgery and they would need a walker now, for a while…

My son is crawling at 50 kms/hr, so it’s time to get him a walker too…so that he can walk for the first time…

As my son starts to grasp the basic sounds, and try to chain them together so as to speak his first words…

His father starts to grasp the basics of Web 3.0, and how blocks chain together to make this happen…

Western philosophy is linear – x leads to y. Eastern philosophy is circular – all about cause and effect. There is no good and evil in Sanatana Dharma – actions are not categorized as good action and bad action. All that matters is consequence, which is the effect of that action. Good actions lead to good consequences and bad lead to bad. You also know this as karma.

The circular philosophy is visible in life itself. We start with nothing, then accumulate all through our lives, and when it is time to go, we leave with nothing. What grows tall, also bends with time and falls back to earth…and then rises again.

Being in the middle helps one see both sides – the growing and the aging. Small wonder then that most people start to question life when they are middle-aged – the mid-age crisis as is well known. You are uniquely poised – you have completed quite a bit of the journey and you begin to realize that it can only be downhill from here.

The incline may be lesser than others, but it is a downward trend.

I tend to see this as it is. Rather than lamenting about what didn’t happen till now, and being fearful of what lies ahead, it is easier to look back and see how much one has grown and matured, and look ahead to new learnings and new beginnings.

May you be forewarned – the only ones who will grow old from now onwards are the ones who cannot learn and unlearn.

You may begin to see two, even three circles of life before you reach the end. Technology and advanced medicine are making this happen. The question is – are you prepared?

Learn something new everyday. Become the kid when you wake, and lie down content at the end of the day, like a person who has seen it all. Wake up the next day, and be that kid again.

The circle of life:) See you tomorrow!
