On consistent writing…

Many people have asked me about my writing, others have suggested that I make a book.

Well, for one, I don’t think I have reached there yet, nor do I aspire to. It it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, I don’t really get affected.

I guess the goal is to write for oneself, as a medium of ‘putting thoughts to paper’, rather than to commercially exploit them. This routine has been now going on for 1,698 days, and every single day.

So the question you should be asking is – how do I discipline myself to get anything done on a regular basis, without missing a single day?

Hmm…I don’t think you forget to brush your teeth, or have a bath, or eat food. Why? Because it’s part of your ROUTINE.

So all you need to do, is to make this as part of your daily routine. Everyday, without fail. It may seem simple, but it is quite difficult in practice. There is always that odd day when your mind has a conversation with you – it’s ok, one day won’t hurt. You can continue tomorrow. That’s the time you give in, and the routine is lost. Look out for such moments, identify them and don’t relent.

Today is Ekādashi, and I have been working since 6 am. Been a long day and still more to go. My mind however, has long forgotten to make excuses for this part of the routine. I had a blogpost out when in hospital waiting for Rohāmrta to be born, and every day before and after, so I guess there is no greater excuse that the mind can think of.

Try it!
