On great work…

What actually constitutes great work?

Is it a culmination of tasks? Or a completion of assignments?

The efficiencies measured…fantastic KPIs possibly?

Maybe the smile on the client’s face at the end of it?

External factors these all are really…

Yes, they matter, but do they constitute YOUR great work?

And how do you measure it? Days, months…years?

Many productivity experts around, may write a lot of prose

On what they think great work is, or isn’t…

I don’t know if they are right, but maybe they are all wrong?

For great work cannot be measured by anyone else,

but YOU.

For you know what you went through, to produce it,

It’s you who struggled through it, loved it, hated it,

embraced it, threw it away for a bit, and then picked it up again,

For great work isn’t a product of a rational mind, no sir, it isn’t

You have to burn in it, feel it percolate through your pores,

much like the love you feel so intensely, only a bit more…

People may call you crazy, demented even,

isn’t this just work? they may say

You have a life don’t you? live it to the fullest

Oh! What do they know, of the all encompassing joy

that accompanies accomplishment

of a nature no less glorious than heaven itself.

For one has to die a million times, and be reborn

Each birth an improvement on the one prior

each moment lived a testimony to the sheer hard work

the passion, the overwhelming passion

the madness, the single hearted devotion

and the insane belief in one’s own abilities and potential

All of which, consume you whole

but that’s what it takes

Yes, that is what it takes

Every single day, every waking moment

to produce, what you feel, what you know

Is great work.
