Of family visits and bittersweet moments…

Had family visit me over the past few days. Good time spent, but now it’s time to leave.

Visits are often bittersweet isn’t it? The time spent is usually never enough, and the days just fly by until it’s time to go back. A lot remains unsaid, a lot remains undone…

But humans are never satisfied anyway. No matter how much one gets, one’s wants just keep expanding to fill the gaps. So is it with such visits. There should be a bell curve hidden somewhere, where any further time results in marginal diminishing utility. Sadly, that peak curve always seems a bit further down the line.

Or in some cases, one crosses it and doesn’t realize until it is too late.

Whatever be the case, there is a certain liveliness with extended families…maybe that is the reason joint families were the norm before we started to live in high rises many meters from the ground and many kilometers from family. And now, there is a sudden silence as I type this, almost as if it’s parting time already…

And now, after having overeaten and overspent, it’s time to get back to normal. Maybe undo some of the unhealthy habits that crept in due to leeways, and focus on the work at hand, and exercise. Life is a full circle of constant break, repair and rebuild, and in it lies the fun of it all, for how boring would life be if it were a seemingly endless repetition of the mundane?

See you tomorrow!
