Of cakes and party hats…

Children’s birthdays – always a tough one.

Rohāmrta turns two in a couple of days – and we are yet to figure out what to do on his special day. He is too young to know or demand any sort of thing – so from clothes to gifts to celebrations, we are on our own. And knowing the fact that he would not have a choice, are we to downsize ourselves to his age and think for him? Grrr…

Those days were so nice, when birthday parties for children meant a simple cake, chips, puffs/samosas and ‘cold drinks’. Take gifts to the party, wear party hats, sing the same song, have a few bites and back. Nowadays, there is so much pressure – from themed parties to locations to menus, and the very odd concept of ‘return gifts’. Can’t seem to wrap my head around that one.

And the worst part of it all- he wouldn’t know what’s going on anyways. Well, not until he sees photos of the event a few years from now. By then, he would have his share of ‘demand-based’ birthdays anyway. So hmmm…in a bit of a pickle now.

Let’s see what we end up doing. At present, Mister Baker to the rescue apparently!
