I had written earlier about my personal experience in Dubai, and how we all stand together to welcome the world to visit us, to know our story, and see what we have built.
Today is the opening ceremony, from 7.30 UAE time/9 pm Indian Standard time. Watch it on YouTube – am sure that it will be spectacular.
I remember the night in 2013 when Dubai won the bid for the Expo. There were celebrations all around, the city resounded with fireworks at the major landmarks such as the Burj Al Arab and Burj Khalifa…we all celebrated the win in our own ways, but we also waited to see how Dubai would go about hosting the world.
And since then, slowly but surely, a whole new city was built from the sands next to the new Airport. It isn’t very far from where I stay, so I have made a couple of trips there, and I can tell you – it is breathtaking. The infrastructure put in place, the planning and meticulous execution…it’s all there for everyone to see.
Today, when the Expo opens, Dubai will present to humanity a case study in itself. On how a tiny spot on the map dreamt beyond it’s size, how it came to become the hub of aviation and trade, and how it rose from a desert to reach planet Mars.
I have been here over fifteen years, and one thing I’ve learned about Dubai is that it never ceases to amaze. Just when you think that we have seen or heard it all, another thing comes along and dazzles once again.
I said it before, and I say it now. This winter, every one of us living here is your host. We welcome you to visit us, and see for yourself, what dreamers can achieve, if they dream big enough.

أتذكر ليلة 2013 عندما فازت دبي باستضافة المعرض. كانت هناك احتفالات في كل مكان ، وكانت المدينة تعج بالألعاب النارية في المعالم الرئيسية مثل برج العرب وبرج خليفة … احتفلنا جميعًا بالفوز بطريقتنا الخاصة ، لكننا أيضًا انتظرنا لنرى كيف ستذهب دبي لاستضافة العالمية.
ومنذ ذلك الحين ، ببطء ولكن بثبات ، تم بناء مدينة جديدة بالكامل من الرمال بجوار المطار الجديد. إنه ليس بعيدًا جدًا عن المكان الذي أقيم فيه ، لذلك قمت برحلتين هناك ، ويمكنني أن أخبرك – إنه أمر مذهل. البنية التحتية الموضوعة والتخطيط والتنفيذ الدقيق … كل هذا متاح ليراه الجميع.
اليوم ، عند افتتاح المعرض ، ستقدم دبي للبشرية دراسة حالة في حد ذاتها. حول كيف حلمت بقعة صغيرة على الخريطة بما يتجاوز حجمها ، وكيف أصبحت مركزًا للطيران والتجارة ، وكيف ارتفعت من الصحراء لتصل إلى كوكب المريخ.
لقد كنت هنا منذ أكثر من خمسة عشر عامًا ، والشيء الوحيد الذي تعلمته عن دبي هو أنها لا تتوقف أبدًا عن الدهشة. فقط عندما تعتقد أننا قد رأينا أو سمعنا كل شيء ، يأتي شيء آخر ويبهر مرة أخرى.
لقد قلتها من قبل ، وأقولها الآن. هذا الشتاء ، كل واحد منا يعيش هنا هو مضيفك. نرحب بكم لزيارتنا ، وانظر بنفسك ، ما يمكن للحالمين تحقيقه ، إذا كانوا يحلمون بما يكفي.
