What stories do you know?

What stories do you know?

Do you know how your parents met?

You may have heard a watered down version of it…

But do you truly know that instant when they first saw each other?

Is it possible for you to experience that first glance?

What stories do you know?

Do you know that day when your brother (or sister) said their first lie?

Are you able to experience that guilt, and possibly that little thrill,

Of being able to get away with it?

What stories do you know?

Do you know the first time your best friend felt hurt by you?

Or that time when they felt the most lonely?

They may have mentioned it, but can you experience it?

What stories do you know?

Do you know the time when your husband (or wife) first experienced the joy of giving?

Or the time when they got into their first fight?

A line or two maybe, but did you feel that rush of adrenaline?

What stories do you really know?

Yes, you know the time you had that first glance, your first crush,

That lie you told your mother, and got away with it, oh that was a relief…

That first rejection, the loss of a job because of your stupidity,

Your first fight way back in school, that scratch on your hand, a scar still visible…

You know, you know very well,

Only your own stories, your triumphs, your failures,

Those moments you hid from the world, from everyone,

You experienced, those thoughts you had…

Only you know them. Only you experienced them.

The rest was made up for the world to see,

Your bright side, your shining light,

For only you know what lies beneath the covers.

And so it follows for everyone else – their bright sides are for you to see

Their stories well hidden in their hearts and minds…

Everyone has a life that they have lived

And a version of it for the rest of the world to see.

Their story. For the world.

Their truth – lies deep beneath.
