People against each other – choosing sides…
I am right and he is wrong..this is mine and that is not his…
My country, my house, my family…rest be damned…
Let’s watch this unfold on social media…
Bombs falling, people slaughtered…
All from the comfort of our couch…
And don’t forget to post your opinion, for its much easier..
Than going though the hell that people in conflict zones endure…
What an example we are setting for our kids…telling them to care for things…
While we throw away all semblance of humanity…
Oh what a world we are leaving behind…
One that thrives on hate, not discovery…not respect…
Not for the things we supposedly believe in, nor for nature, not even for ourselves.
This is a collective that could have become a force towards godliness..
Instead, we waste the gifts given to us by petty fights and silly reasons…
Live and let live – much more easier to say, than to achieve.
Time will stand testimony to the silliness of man,
and to the idea of humanity – an idea that we frittered away.
An idea that we so easily frittered away.
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action—
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father let my country awake…
