A routine to start all routines…

I am doing some research on teaching kids a few basics. What better than to start from one’s own culture?

Here is a Sloka that we can teach our kids to recite every morning, in time becoming part of routine.

There are six more, that I will introduce in the coming days.

I hope this is the start of something that materializes into some sort of a tool for ‘beginner parents’ like me…wish me luck!

कराग्रे वसते लक्ष्मिः करमध्ये सरस्वति ।
करमूले तु गोविन्दः प्रभाते करदर्शनम् ॥

karāgre vasate lakṣmiḥ karamadhye sarasvati
karamūle tu govindaḥ prabhāte karadarśanam

At the top of the hand resides Goddess Laxmi and in the middle of the hand resides goddess Saraswati. At the base of the hand resides Lord Govinda.

This shloka holds both spiritual and material meaning. We pray to Sri Laxmi for prosperity. We pray to Saraswati for Knowledge and we pray to Govinda for health. All these three are needed for a peaceful life.

The basic idea is that we believe in karma. We pray to the universal consciousness to help us do such deeds that can bring wealth, happiness, and knowledge.
