A drop, a song, a thought and a dream…

I revisited this blogpost today.

The weather in Dubai is great at the moment, light rains, drop in temperatures, and an overall good feeling. Not for some, but for me, its a collection of beautiful moments…

Such days also make me think deep about life and where I am headed. Not that I am in a bad place, but it’s good to have an assessment once in a while, to realign oneself with the larger goals that often get lost in the daily melee.

As I watch Rohāmrta grow up, a lot of thoughts cross my mind. A few about what he will become when he is an adult, of course, as a parent, I do think of it. But strangely, I don’t stress about it. I don’t know why, maybe it isn’t even normal, but I am genuinely not stressed about what he will study, or where, or the profession that he will end up in.

I know that I will endeavor to give him the best learnings, not just education. But at the end of it, he has to find his own path – we are mere facilitators and guiding stones in a path that he may choose.

So, back to this post where the singer speaks about what she wants to do, and why one should not be scared of following one’s dreams.

Maybe this is what I will read back to him someday, when he is confused as to what he should end up doing in life.

Maybe this is what he will read back to me in case I start to pressure him to take up a particular vocation.

Either way, this song may end up playing a very important part in our collective philosophy towards life.

Let’s see!

What is your daydream?

Heard this well-written song on America’s Got Talent today – Daydream by Lily Meola.

A simple song, but strikes the heart.

A song that I wish everyone sings to their kids when they are about to enter college.

A song that we should continue to revisit every time we realize that we are not spending our time doing what we want to do.

A song for everyone who is doing something that they do not excel at, and not doing something that they are the best at.

A song for every entrepreneur, for everyone who wishes to change the world, or better still, who wants to change the way they live.

Hear it…

And then try it:)

When we were kids in the back yard
Playing astronauts and rock stars
No one told us to stop it
Called us unrealistic

Then suddenly you’re eighteen
Go to college for your Plan B
What you want is too risky
Live for weekends and whiskey

We all got these big ideas

One day they’re replaced with fears
How did we get here?Darlin’ don’t quit your daydream
It’s your life that you’re making
It ain’t big enough if it doesn’t scare the hell out of you

If it makes you nervous
It’s probably worth it
Why save it for sleep when you could be
Living your daydream

Thirty-one waiting tables

She has the voice of an angel
Out of money and power
She only sings in the shower
All these things we say we’ll get to

Shot down by the reasons not to

Darlin’ don’t quit your daydream
It’s your life that you’re making
It ain’t big enough if it doesn’t scare the hell out of you
If it makes you nervous
It’s probably worth it
Why save it for sleep when you could be
Living your daydream

So scared of failure that we fail to try
Turnin’ around before the finish line
Gotta fall for a minute before you can fly

So daydream
It’s your life that you’re making
It ain’t big enough if it doesn’t scare the hell out of you
If it makes you nervous
It’s probably worth it

Why save it for sleep when you could be
Living your daydream

Why save it for sleep when you should be
Living your daydream…
