On leisurely strolls and leisurely scrolls…

An eventful Sunday.

Visit House of Prose twice, first time to select books to purchase, and the second time because they wanted cash instead of a card, and I didn’t have any on me. Needless to say, I went on to purchase more the second time around, and walked away satisfied with a good haul. You should visit sometime!

In between the bookstores (and an excited Keshav), we went to Nad Al Sheba for a change – and what a change it was. Pretty different from the usual mall scene that we are used to – no food court, a lot of hoity-toity restaurants that I would personally feel out of place in, and a general feeling of aloofness in a setting that should be more welcoming for good business. Anyway, we went back to a mall that we had seen on our way earlier, and while this too wasn’t the best, we had a good lunch at Dashas. The name suggests an Indian origin (Dasha means planetary positions in Sanskrit) and the claim of cruelty-free food also suggests a spiritual link, although the abundance of meat and a couple of veg dishes did little to take that thought forward. The food was good though, and I would love to visit again:)

I read this somewhere:

“I found the best ideas usually came, not when one was actively striving for them, but when one was in a more relaxed state… I used to take long solitary walks on Sundays, during which I tended to review the current situation in a leisurely way. Such occasions often proved fruitful, even though, (or perhaps because), the primary purpose of the walk was relaxation and not research.”

A lot of our Sundays (pre Internet) were spent this way – unfortunately nowadays our idea of relaxation is a leisurely scroll – not a leisurely stroll. And it is so difficult to change this – funnily enough, we tend to ‘reward’ ourselves for staying away from the phone for long (30 minutes) periods of time, and how? Of course, by scrolling!

The books are here. I am in the same boat, in many ways. Building up a moat against it – one book at a time:)

See you tomorrow!
