I was reading a few of my earlier blogposts, ones from 2022-23, and came across one that I had posted on the 1st of January 2023. Two resolutions – one was to quit sugar, and the second was to streamline X.
Funnily enough, I quit sugar (again) last year:)) And X is nowhere close to being streamlined.
We forget most of the goals that we make, if we don’t follow through with concrete actionable items. It’s a process, and unless you make one that is robust, you will never reach these targets – and in some cases (like mine), even forget that you ever made them:))
The day passed well though – wonderful weather, books books books, a nice movie and a visit to the beach in the evening. Took Keshav to Book Hero in the morning, and returned with a trolley load of books, and went to Umm Suqeim park in the evening, visited the other Book Hero and managed to pick up books there as well! Life is good:)
Spent the next one hour clicking Keshav as he enjoyed chasing the waves and collecting shells. Rounded off the evening with a few pieces of falafil – not falafel mind you – these were masqueraders, deep fried tandoori type flattened patties, and more fries that I could count. Avoided the free cola that came with this, thankfully.
Anyway, here is what I wrote on the 3rd of January 2023, two days after I made the resolution, and one day after I apparently forgot it.
See you tomorrow!
And two days already pass by.
Do you remember what you did on the second day of 2022? or 2021? or 2020?
Chances are that you would not have a clue. New Year’s Eve is considered a special occasion and we generally recollect what we did on these days every year, and also probably the next day as well. But that does not hold true for the very next day – when we start to settle into the new year or what they call ‘Business as usual’.
And so it continues, with some breaks and some milestones (birthdays, anniversaries) in between, until we reach the 31st again, and so on and so forth.
Life seems to go on in auto mode nowadays – with us in the middle of a large cycle that keeps going. And it keeps going until we realize that we are well past our prime and well, we went through the motions to reach there but hardly lived.
Maybe we need to constantly remind ourselves of our journey, and our current standing – where we are at present, and how far we have come to get to here. How lucky we are to be where we are and how much we possibly have left, so as to make the best use of it.
Otherwise, life just passes us by, doesn’t it?
I leave you with a favorite quote of mine, from an author who I very recently discovered. You may like him too:)
“And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.”
Haruki Murakami
