And so the universe came together…

Today is my janma tithi, that time of the year when the celestial ingredients are the same as when you were born, your own personal set of inputs that led to the miracle that is you. We all are born into this world with endless possibilities and infinite potential…a blank slate. That is your moment…and that moment comes along every year.

This is different from Gregorian calendar birthdays, that come on the same day every year. While the Gregorian calendar serves as an “easy to remember” marker, the janma tithi goes deeper in thought and observance, to create an ambience of spirituality and a connect with the unknown.

For aren’t we all in that quest, to find out why we are here? What is the purpose of life? Why were we born to the parents we have, to the family we are part of, in the country where we grew up?

Eastern philosophy answers all of this, and more. It also gives you glimpses into why you were born on that day, at that time, and at that precise second…it also helps you explore the time when you were not born, and the time when you will no longer be present in this physical state.

The universe is endless, and so are you. Like matter can neither be created nor destroyed, you just morph from one state into another, in a constant quest for the ultimate goal – to merge with the infinite.

The janma tithi gives you an opportunity to have a peek into the celestial makeup that existed at the precise moment when you were born – and hence possibly dip into those energies. It is as if you wind back time and reach that moment – and watch as you take the first breath of energy and wail out loud….

Meditation is all about watching oneself, as they say. And so the janma tithi gives you that feeling – provided you observe it in the right manner.
