Spent some time at the airport today…
People…a lot of them, and suitcases
Carrying goods of variety, gifts, sweetmeats…
Eager eyes, aching bodies…
Tired from the journey, but joyous in anticipation
of relatives and friends who await them.
Small dreams in their eyes, of moments to come
of stories to tell, to hear, to discuss
matters big and small.
A child waits ahead of me, checking in
with his parents every five minutes – have they come yet?
His parents have learnt to hide their excitement, but no,
The kid is still true to his feelings.
And so he repeats his incessant questions, jumping around
waving his hands, asking the time, repeatedly
Until he spots them, and leaps in joy,
Leaping over the barrier, and into their arms
The old arms welcome him, and a tear or two
the hug lasts long…as long as it should
for it’s been years, since they saw each other…
Grandchild and grandparent…united in love, brought together again
At the airport…
